Mode

Iris has 3 modes
– Automatic
– Manual
– Paused

With this page I want to explain when to use them and what they mean.

Automatic

Automatic mode uses your clock and location and automatically sets Iris between the day and night settings.

During the day your screen will will be more bright and with more blue light and during the night the brightness will be decreased and many of the blue light will be removed.

During the night the screen will also be more yellow going to red. This is normal and the reason for this is because Iris is removing the blue light from your screen so you can fall asleep faster.

Use this mode if you don’t know what to use. Use it also if you want everything to happen automatically and don’t open Iris much.

This is how Automatic mode looks in 3 PM

And this is how it looks at 10 PM

Manual

Manual mode uses the night time settings all the time. Blue light and brightness will be decreased.

It’s useful if you don’t have sunlight coming in your room during the day or you just like Iris to be ONΒ all the time.

Use it when you want lower blue light and brightness all the time.

Manual mode looks like this all the time

Paused

Paused mode will stop all Iris color changes and will return your display to calibrated colors. Iris preserves color calibration if youΒ have calibrated display and Paused mode will revert your monitor to calibrated display.

Use it when you want exact colors, for example when you paint something or when you just watch and enjoy some movie or game in all the colors and have the best experience.

In Paused mode Iris is basically stopped and there is no eye protection. Blue light is also present and it will be hard for you to get to sleep fast. Note this when you use it at night.

You know Iris is paused when the icon is yellow

Paused mode looks like this. Notice how the white is perfect white

  1. Hi Daniel,

Thank you for this excellent health conscious software. I struggle with chronic disease however need to use my computer a lot. Which mode affects flicker the most? It seems the various modes affect blue light but what if you want constant flicker reduction?

  2. Hi Daniel,

Thank you for the awesome software. I wonder how does the reading mode compared with E-ink device as a monitor? Are they basically the same, or E-ink device is still much better? Thank you.

    1. While they are both black and white, they are not the same thing. E-ink is generally safer and easier on the eyes but it slow refresh rate makes it bad to use for anything other than reading

  3. I want to change my settings and it wants all kinds of data that I donothave. How do I change my settings if I cannot access the settings menu?

    1. Hi Miriam,
I am not entirely sure what data are you referring to

I am going to send you a mail now following up so we can solve the problem together πŸ™‚

  4. Is there a way to ALWAYS have the light at 75%? I used that maximum on your little program I got on giveawayoftheday.com. But now I have a much bigger program and an not sure what to do with it.
    Thank you.

      1. Hi Daniel:

Your software is wonderful!!! Its been a year and a half and I can see a 80%
improvement with my dry eyes. But my computer just crashed and I went back to installing it again on my Windows 8.1 and its not working. I believe I purchased life time for 14.00 USD I think with a code w9bD……tried more than once. Can you help and solve my problem trying to reinstall? Anything would be appreciated! Your friend and happy customer….Chuck Brown USA

  5. Dear Daniel

Your save file box is not working I cannot download ?I have my code ready to go…..I cannot use the computer now without your healthy mode on!!! I’ m going nuts without it on!!! Please help….Chuck

  6. Hello. I know this is probably an idiot question but I’d like to know if using Iris takes away the need for using both daytime and nighttime blue-light blocking glasses when working on my computer? I’m guessing the answer is yes, but just want to make sure. Thanks!

  7. What does the biohacker mode do for you? I am looking for the most effective mode that reduces flicker and blue light at all times. Is this necessary though? Some blue light is not a bad thing right? What I understand is blue light emitting from devices and lights will have an influence on sleep quality. What other info can you direct me to that would be helpful for myself and to share with others? What about LCD flatscreens. I find myself wearing my blue light blocking glasses during the day when I use my computer, but wasn’t sure if this is necessary? Thank you for all that you do!!

    1. Hi Brady,
Yes, blue light is good in the morning and early day to help you wake up and be active but not at night when you need to sleep
You can use our Health type or adjust the settings to your preferences in Advanced view of the program to make sure they’re exactly what you want
