SFX means Self-extracting archive.

This version of Iris mini is made as Self-extracting archive. Why?

Some users work on corporate PC and don’t have admin rights to install Iris mini.

SFX is one way. From now the Iris mini installer will also work without admin rights and will write the changes to AppData, but I made this version as alternative. Generally you don’t need it, but with this version you can choose the install location.

With the new Iris mini installer the install location will be fixed for all users in order to avoid confusion, because regular users can’t install apps to Program Files and you will get error if you are not running the installer as Admin.

In this version I added some much wanted hidden features.

Manual night duration by hour, day temperature and day brightness for interpolation

and the feature for software mouse (cursor color changing)

[enable/disable] manual night duration
Use manual night duration with hours. Use set night start time to and set night end time to to change the start and end hours of the night

set night start time to [value]
Sets the night start time at hour. Use with enable manual night duration.

set night end time to [value]
Sets the night end time at hour. Use with enable manual night duration.

set day temperature to [temperature]
Sets the Color temperature during the day to custom value. There will be gradual interpolation between this and the night temperature.

set day brightness to [brightness]
Sets the Brightness during the day to custom value. There will be gradual interpolation between this and the night brightness.

There are so much new things in this version

Most awesome is the inverted mode and the 0K color temperature mode.

I will update the hidden features article tomorrow with the new spells

Manual mode is by default and Hidden features are enabled by default, because non-technical people was a little bit confused and I am trying to make Iris mini maximal easy to use.

And the Window for activation didn’t have focus and this was driving me crazy. I fixed this. Now it’s focused by default

To activate this color inversion use the

invert

As hidden feature

invert colors

will also work

to remove all blue light use

zero blue light

hidden feature.

Hi,

I fixed a lot of things in this version. I get second monitor and fixed all the problems with second monitor connected with HDMI and VGA cabel.

– There are some new awesome Hidden features and new Mixed mode
– Tray icon rotation only at night and hidden feature
– Use fixer again and hidden feature for fixer
– Preserve color calibration during the day
– Enable and disable gamma fixer hidden feature
– Add manual brightness and temperature hidden feature and mixed mode
– Remove old multimonitor code

Here are the new hidden features

[enable/disable] gamma fixer

Gamma fixer is used, because when you unlock your PC or the Video card decides to reset your Screen will reset the colors. Therefore I make slight change of the gamma every second. If you somehow notice this change use “disable gamma fixer”. After this when the monitor resets it self click the tray icon several times by hand and Iris mini will work again.

[enable/disable]  tray icon rotation

The tray icon will rotate when Iris is changing your screen colors and your screen is not calibrated. If you hate this rotation use “disable tray icon rotation”

[enable/disable]  manual temperature

This is used for the new Mixed mode. The temperature can be manual, but the brightness can be automatic. The icon will change to black also in Mixed mode.

This is used for the new Mixed mode. The brightness can be manual, but the temperature can be automatic. The icon will change to black also in Mixed mode.

The menu on Right click is also changed. It’s more ugly now, but it works perfect on all OS.

Hi,
This version is important for the people who use Iris mini Pro.
Several people told me about problems after updating Windows 10 with activation.
I searched the problem a lot and rewrited almost all of the licensing logic.
By updating to this version your Iris mini Pro problems should be fixed.

The problem was only with Win 10 I think, but still this is the fix. Everything should happen automatically now. If you expirience any problems please write to me since I can never test everything on all machines.

Several people wanted Iris mini for Mac OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)

Since I write Iris mini at C++11 which is not supported on Macs this old I needed to rewrite almost all code for Iris mini.

This version matches the Iris mini 0.1.6 for Mac OSX and I will support in only when someone requests something new from me.

I know your pain. The first Mac that I used to develop Iris was like 10 years old.

For 32-bit you can just double click the executable, but for 64-bit there are some extra steps.

For Ubuntu/Debian

For the other distros add support for i386 architechture somehow with the command line.

Blue light filters are apps that reduce the light emitted from the monitor. You may hear them also as blue light blockers, screen filters, orange screen filters, and many other names.

The history of blue light filters started accidentally when Michael Herf the creator of f.lux realized in 2008 that the software for changing the color temperature of the monitor at night actually helps a lot of people to sleep better and reduce eye strain.

Redshift was an open-source clone made for Linux machines after this and also Twilight for Android.

Iris is the premium alternative to the free software products which integrates blue light filtering with smoother 3-step automation (Day/Night/Sleep) and flicker-free brightness automation which we created in 2015 as eye protection software.

What is Iris?

Iris Status

In the top right corner of the screen, you can see what values Iris is using right now for eye protection and how much time you have remaining of your trial.

There you will also see if Iris is Paused or if your trial has expired.

You can also see this information when you hover the tray icon.

During the day the values will be higher and your screen will be more bright.

During the night the values will be lower and your screen will be more dark and orange.

The orange tint is normal because Iris is reducing harmful blue light.

What are the K values?

The K values mean kelvins and they are used to measure the Color temperature of the screen.

The lower the K value the warmer the screen and the less Blue light is emitted.

Blue light is the high energy visible light and long-term exposure is linked to many eye problems including macular degeneration.

Aside from this exposure to blue light causes drop in melatonin secretion and this is the reason why it’s hard for us to fall asleep when we use digital devices late at night.

Iris will automatically regulate blue light day and night so you will be protected in the long run and you will fall asleep faster and sleep deeper.

What are the % values?

The % values are used to measure screen brightness.

Iris has an innovative approach to controlling the brightness without PWM flicker which is the major cause of eye strain and headaches when we use computer monitors.

Some expensive monitors use different circuitry called DC dimming which is more healthy but they are rare and most monitors will cause you a lot of eye problems at low brightness.

Flicker-free monitors are much more expensive since the DC dimming circuit is more expensive to implement.

One more minus is the brightness reduction range of such monitors is limited and you may also need Iris to achieve lower luminance.

They are also not as energy efficient as the PWM monitors, but they preserve the colors even at minimum brightness.

Iris is software which can reduce the brightness of all monitors without PWM and without changing the backlight flicker-frequency or the current through the backlight.

It does this by using the video card to move the white point of the monitor.

This gives you really big brightness reduction range and is a cheap and effective solution for reducing the negative effects of monitors with PWM flicker.

Aside from this, it will automatically regulate the brightness based on the light around you.

Modes

With the different Modes, you can control the automation of Iris.

With Automatic mode, you will see gradual shift during the whole day while with Manual mode one value will be used the whole day.

Use Paused mode to stop all Iris color changes and return your monitor to calibrated state.

Types

From the Types menu, you can select different presets which a lot of other people use and like.

I based the first Health mode on medical researchers and recommendations by eye doctors and this is the type I use on my computer.

You can the specialties of each type in the table below

Click the Use Advanced Settings checkbox and design your own custom preset.

From there you can select and customize all Iris features.

Today I fixed 2 major really big Iris bugs.

One was the ping lag when playing games on Windows 7 laptops and the other is 100% CPU usage on some Macbooks.

I finally found the error after several months of searching and it turned out that the platform Iris was build on had bug into the WLAN module.

Blue light filters remove (or at least partly) the blue light, which alters the colors

So when you are creating something with flux on, you will notice that the moment you turn it on or send it to somebody else the colors will look different

Of course, you can turn it off every time you start working but that’s just annoying

It would be nice to be able to do that automatically, wouldn’t it?

Well, there’s a way.

You can do that using Iris

It has a feature called Color Pausers and it will automatically stop altering colors when you are working with any program that you add

This problem is rare but can occur in people of all age group. Tritanopia is another problem.

This problem occurs due to the deficiency of blue receptors. Some other reasons of color blindness are age related disorders such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, trauma, and the deficiency of vitamin A.

Cataracts and Glaucoma can also have an effect on color sensitivity.

Different barbiturates, high blood pressure medications and antibiotics can also affect the color perception.

How to diagnose the problem?

The inherited color vision insufficiency is generally diagnosed in early childhood with the use of easy screening tests.

Different tests like Ishihara Color Plates and The Hardy-Rand-Rittler, commonly known as H-R-R are used to evaluate the degree and type of color insufficiency.

In both of the tests, the individual is asked to classify the colored shapes or numbers that lie in a mixture of dots and differ in strength and color.

The physicians distinguish and classify the insufficiency based on the person’s responses.

Always keep this in your mind that hereditary color vision deficiency cannot be cured or treated.

Different types of measures can be taken in order to deal with this problem.

Some of the people develop their own structure of recognizing different colors by their location or brightness, such as the points of yellow, green and red in a traffic light.

The colored lenses and specialized glasses are also available in the market which helps in normalize colors.

Color blind is the name given to those people who do not have a normal range of color contrast compassion.

Normally there are several different types of color blindness, and not all of them are because of genetic variation.

There are many other reasons which are the root of this problem in people of all age group.

The subjective knowledge of color vision is partly created by the retina computing differences in the wavelengths of incident brightness.

That is the normal color vision is enabled by having fundamentally three relatively independent channels, each is sensitive to a special distribution of wavelengths.

When it is said that the red channel is stirred relatively more than another channel, then we instinctively experience the color red, with the information being partially restricted by the relative intensity of the stimulation.

A color blind test is usually conducted in order to determine if you have a color vision deficiency or not. If you think you might be color blind then immediately visit your eye doctor.

Normally there are two forms of color blind tests. The first one is a screening test.

The screening test can help in detecting the existence of a color vision problem.

The second one is more detailed quantitative tests.

The tests can perceive a color vision deficiency and find out the type and brutality of color blindness.

Who should take a color blind test?

A color blind test should be given to anyone considering a job where correct color perception is vital.

The examples are commercial artists, electricians, technicians, certain built-up and selling personnel and designers.

It is also observed that females are suffering more from this problem as compared to men.

Though there is no complete treatment in order to deal with color blindness, but in some cases, a few specially colored contact lenses are designed which helps in improving a colorblind person’s aptitude to distinguish the differences between certain colors.

In old times, there was no proper way of testing the eyes of any person.

Any sightedness was very difficult to detect as there wasn’t any equipment or any method to do so.

Similarly, color blindness also remained undetectable until recent times.

However, with the increasing number of cases, it became necessary to invent ways and equipment to counter such problems.

In 1917, a color perception test was designed by a Japanese professor in order to detect the red-green color deficiencies. I

t was named Ishihara test after the professor Dr. Shinobu Ishihara.

Nowadays it’s the most widely used color perception test for such deficiencies.

Working on Ishihara test

It is a color perception test which uses 38 plates in order to detect red-green color deficiencies.

It is also called as ‘38 plates CVD test’. There are several types of plates which are given to the person under test.

Each of the plates consists of a circle of dots which appear to be randomized in color and size.

Some plates contain a number which are visible to the person with normal eyes and invisible or very difficult to the person with red-green color deficiencies.

Other plates contain numbers which are visible to the person with deficient eyes and barely visible to those with normal eyes.

The results extracted from plate observations define the person as normal or deficient.

Normally, a severe deficiency can be detected after few plates and a little deficiency may require all plates to be categorized accordingly.

Today, a lot of eye specialists use this test. These tests are also required before the recruitment of army individuals and duty pilots.

Following are some types of plates used during an Ishihara test:

Demonstration Plate

These are designed purposely to be visible for every person whether normal eyed or deficient eyed.

These are for demonstration purposes only and their score doesn’t count.

Transformation Plates

A different color will be visible for a normal person than the color deficient ones.

Both of the groups, control, and test group, will be able to see different figures and numbers.

Vanishing Plates

The figures on these plates will be visible just for the normal eyed persons.

Hidden Digit Plates

The figures on these plates will be visible to only those person having color deficient eyes.

Diagnostic Plates

These are purposely built to detect the severity of deficiency and the type of it.

You can return to simple settings from the ON and OFF slider next to the Save and close button, but the important thing is that now all menus in the Advanced settings are unlocked.

One quick way to check if Iris is Pro is to see the icon. If your Iris icon is green you have Iris Pro

The reason for this is that by default Windows has some software limitations for controlling the blue light.

When you start Iris mini you will recieve window like this

Make sure to click Yes. This will run the Regedit file showed when you click Show more details button

And this will unlock all options after you Restart your PC

I want to note again that you need to Restart your PC to unlock all options again otherwise you will have this

After Restart everything should work fine

If this doesn’t happen automatically, download and run this file

Безплатният Iris mini изглежда така

и като цяло нямате много избор за това как да го ползвате, но все пак Iris mini има 3 режима на работа.

Автоматичен (Automatic)

Това е режимът по подразбиране. През деня екранът е по-светъл, а през нощта малко по-тъмен. Точните стойности през деня са 5000K/100%, а през нощта 3400K/80%.

Използвайте този режим ако не знаете какво правите и през деня стаята ви е осветена, а през нощта тъмна.

Какви са тези K и % ще ви обясня малко по надолу.

Ръчен (Manual)

Iris mini ще използва 3400K/80% през целият ден.

Използвайте този режим ако стаята ви е тъмна дори и през деня и не има недостиг на светлина.

Спрян (Paused)

Iris mini ще спре да прави каквито и да е промени по-екрана. Екранът ви отново ще стане ярък все едно Iris mini въобще не е инсталиран.

Използвайте този режим, когато имате нужда от точни цветове или просто искате да изключите Iris mini за малко.

Дотук добре, това беше за безплатната версия, но когато активирате Iris mini Pro получавате меню като това:

И тези опции не говорят абсолютно нищо за нормалният човек, но след малко ще ги обясня.

Каква е целта?

Целта е, когато е светло в стаята ви, екранът ви да е по-светъл, а когато е тъмно стаята ви, екранът да е по-тъмен. Ако през нощта лампата в стаята ви е светната е хубаво и мониторът ви да не е прекалено тъмен както може би се досещате.

Защо? Човешкото око се товари най-малко, когато компютърът не изглежда като източник на светлина, а все едно е част от стаята. Затова не ни болят и очите докато четем книга. Това, което се опитвам да кажа е, че е най-добре яркостта на екрана да съвпада със светлината в стаята (ако стаята е тъмна, мониторът също да е затъмнен).

Какво е това K?

Буквата K след горните стойности се използва за цветова температура. На кратко колкото по-малко е това число толкова по-малко синя светлина се излъчва от екрана. Колкото по-малко синя светлина се излъчва от екрана, толкова по-добър сън ще имате.

Защо? Синята светлина е една от главните причини за проблемите със съня. В нашите очи имаме един специален фотопигмент (melanopsin), който при наличие на синя светлина спира производството на нашия хормон на съня мелатонин.

Тъй като първите хора не са стояли пред компютрите по цял ден и Слънцето е бил основният източник на синя светлина, най-нормалното нещо, което можем да направим е да намаляваме максимално синята светлина излъчвана от компютрите ни вечер.

Синята светлина също е с най-голяма енергия и товари окото най-много. Свързана е с различни дегеративни заболявания на очите и като цяло е хубаво да се избягва. Изключение е слънчевата светлина, защото тя съдържа целият спектър на светлината. Хубаво е човек да прекарва поне 15 минути дневно на слънце.

Как да настроя K?

Колкото по-ниска е стойността на цветовата температура, толкова по-добре. Ако можете да работи на много червен екран, слагайте на минимум.

Трябва обаче и да ви е комфортно. И тук изниква въпросът тази стойност добра ли е, помага ли?

Всяка стойност под 6500К помага. Колкото по-ниска е стойността толкова повече синя светлина се премахва от екрана, толкова по-малко ще ви болят очите и толкова по-добър сън ще имате.

Какво е това %?

С % е означена яркостта на екрана, колкото по-малък е процентът, толкова по-тъмен ще е екрана. Тук за разлика от цветовата температура по-малко не винаги е по-добре.

Iris mini контролира яркостта по специален начин без ШИМ като по този начин окото не се синхронизира с трептенията на екрана или така нареченият фликър на подсветката.

Защо? Очите ни болят най-малко, когато яркостта на екрана съвпада със светлината в стаята. По-този начин екранът не изглежда като източник на светлина и четем най-лесно буквите. Ако обаче прекалите буквите могат да станат по-малко четими.

Как да настроя %?

Опитвайте се да настройвате яркостта така, че тя да съвпада със светлината в стаята и буквите да са максимално четими. Трябва да ви е комфортно.

Аз харесвам 100% през деня, 80% към 17:00-23:00 часа и 70% към 23:00-04:00.

Тук е индивидуално. Някои хора ползват 25% през целия ден, защото са много чувствителни към светлината.

Ами ако сбъркам?

Каквото и да направите и каквито и настройки да сложите с Iris винаги ще е по-добре отколкото без Iris.

Ще го усетите сами, но ако все пак се притеснявате, че ще оплескали нещо ползвайте Автоматичен режим и стойности 3400K/75%.
