The screen shouldn’t look like a light source but like a book matching the room lighting

The default settings in Iris during the day is 5000K
The point is that during the day you don’t need to remove all blue light but it’s good to slightly improve the contrast with 5000K as a color temperature

In the article it says a high frequency would be better, the low frequency is the problem, because the eyes detect it and the eyemuscles get contracted by that rate. If it’s high enough the eyes doesn’t respond to them anymore? Isn’t that the case?

I started using IRIS because it was the only solution that supported two screens! Since then, I am very happy with it.

Just wanted to this constructive feedback to improve the product:
I do a lot of screenshots during my work. With IRIS activated, the screenshot looks yellow and pretty ugly to sent to someone. So everytime I want to take a screenshot I have to pause IRIS, which can get pretty annoying.

IF there would be a way to “automatically” pause IRIS, every time I open Windows “Snipping Tool” – That would be much of a relief.

No, the colors always change if the light is visible. Maybe they filter some invisible blue light but you need a measurement device to test this (spectrometer)

The whole idea of automatic is that it is indeed automatic which is why it doesn’t let you change the sliders when manual is turned off
If you want your own settings you need to turn on Manual, because if you switch back to automatic the program will adjust your settings according to the time of day and location

Another useful feature would be the ability to change the volume of the “use sounds” option.

I think there might be something wrong with this test page.
It says “Bellow you can see a white line moving really fast.”. But I can’t see any moving white line at all. I can only see the example still images under “What to look for?”.
There is, however, a seemingly miss-placed text reading “PWM test” far to the left of the text reading “We will use this to determine if your monitor has PWM flicker….”. I’m guessing the test is meant to show up here?
Tried 3 different browsers. All show the same. No moving images except the eye GIF.

One problem I had is that I didn’t realize that many of the words (buttons) were actually clickable.
you are not using a conventional graphic interface language.

It seems you have developed a new graphic language. newness is great, but then your
customers have to learn a new language. better communication would result from a more conventional graphic language.

This is a fascinating topic and I am quite impressed how IRIS has capitalised on this very real need when it comes to sleep science.

I just want to add that the need for amber-tinted glasses stems from more than just the need to combat eye-strain. The more serious concern related to nocturnal use of electronic devices relates the the correlation between Melatonin (our body’s sleep hormone) production attenuation and blue-light exposure. This circadian rhythm subversion is a critical factor when deliberating around blue-light emitting devices/lamps and it leads to serious sleep disorders. (I know you have alluded to this in another article…)

I work for a Specialist Ophthalmic Surgeon who has much experience in neurophysiology alongside his passion for eye health. He also struggled with sleep deprivation for many years and as a result became intrigued by the field of sleep science.

Hence, he took to the lab and was among the first people world-wide to scientifically develop a type of amber-tinted lens (Blue-light filter glass) that blocks out the specific bandwidth of blue light (460 – 480nm) in the light spectrum that is complicit in melatonin production attenuation.

Called SleepSpec, these glasses have been used by regular users, as well as various high-level sports teams across the globe (Ireland, USA, UK & South Africa). The SleepSpec Shades dramatically aided athletes with the effects of jet-lag and increased light-exposure.

Basically, melatonin production naturally kicks in 2 hours before sleep-state should set in. Thus, if you are going to be exposed to ANY light source that emits the 460-480nm blue light (which includes pretty much ALL modern lighting and electronic devices), you could just pop on your SleepSpec and continue as normal. Your body’s natural melatonin production would then be protected, thereby protecting your circadian rhythm and sleep quality.

Inasmuch as products like IRIS Software takes care of mitigating blue-light emission from electronic devices (such as smart phones, computers and tablets), people who watch a lot of TV at night, or who are just generally exposed to a lot of artificial lighting in their immediate environment are still vulnerable.

Wearing SleepSpec would stand all such individuals in excellent stead. By popping on the SleepSpec Shades (in the same fashion Daniel suggested above) 2 hours before planned bedtime you can be assured that any negative effect of blue light in your environment is completely eliminated.

Of course, using IRIS Software would be extremely helpful if you are using a lot of e-devices.

Alongside the tinted shades (for kids and adults), SleepSpec also provides tinted flashlights and tinted night lights

Hope this is useful to you and your readers! It won’t solve ALL sleep disorders, but it would go a long way in aiding users who are night-owls, or who need to work late and who want to protect their quality sleep.

Grace makes an excellent point in that I think it would be extremely helpful to have a better and more thorough understanding of what each option does. Some can obviously be taken at face value, but others are not so easy. For instance, what is overlap? By definition, overlap means overlap but what does it mean when it pertains to this in particular? Another is, “biohacker.” I have no idea what that has to do with IRIS. Even the category of “health” is general. If IRIS could have a page that defines these better, I think people might find it most useful in understanding how to use these better. (IF there is a page that I haven’t seen that does contain this info, please let me know.)

This usually happens when you’re running more than one instance of Iris at the same time or another software like flux for example
Check in the task manager if that’s happening

Well, the best thing is to get monitor without any flicker, but 100,000 shouldn’t cause eye strain (maybe)

The higher the flicker rate the more eye strain a monitor produces

A 100% accurate color cannot be achieved while removing blue light at the same time

It allows you to turn Iris off when you open a specific program (like Photoshop) this way Iris can be paused while using programs that require accurate colors to work with 🙂

FWIW, I intend to set up 2 invocations of Iris Micro; one to set to “true color” and appropriate brightness, and the other to “kill as much blue as possible” and brightness the same as the first. I’ll do this on each PC, and of course the brightness will depend on each PC’s monitor.

I am not familiar with the Spyder 5 Pro device but from what I can see it actively itneracts with your screen to change colors

After some research I found that it is moire pattern effect caused by something like difference between monitor pixels and particular camera pixel scanning system. Sorry for inaccuracy describing the issue. I do believe that there’s no such effect if you are not filming the screen. Am I correct?

There are some very rare cases, depending on your monitor, that Iris will not remove absolutely all of the flicker, it also depends on the settings of Iris that you have, so it’s possible

You can notice that in these boxes there are different named colors and they slightly change depending on which box you are looking at
They try to represent, as close as possible, how color blind people (depending on the type of colorblindness) see the colors

On another note, you are right about the social aspect of colors but this is as close as it gets and it can give you an idea 🙂

I would also posit that a lot of color-blind people see colors differently or see the constituent parts of a color. In nature there is no such thing as a true color and we have social aspects to what is color: For example in Australia “white” is more “White” if it has a small tinge of yellow in it whereas in the UK they prefer a small tinge of blue. Color-blind people can see the difference….

Is it possible that you are running two versions of Iris (or another similar program) at the same time? They conflict with each other and may cause this

If you want to uninstall you can just close Iris and delete the associated files that you downloaded

Biohacker mode uses very low amounts of Blue Light and that’s why it’s able to also reduce EMFs

You can manually change Blue Light to your liking from the menu in the Advanced settings

Iris doesn’t currently have a mode or setting that is made to reduce UV light but we can test this and try to add it in the future if possible

I don’t think that there is a need to wear glasses while using Iris because Iris already reduces the blue light 🙂

Running the tests multiple times, I got strong or complete protan status.
Currently I am playing with settings Severity 100% with a 10-20% Color adjustment.

Not sure exactly what it means ‘until all letters are visible’: in term of optimal contrast or merely visible? Strangely Color at 0% and Severity 100% seems a ‘nice view’ of A letters but eveything else also seems so ‘blue’. So weird, too. Now I need Iris for all that excessive blue?!! I don’t know…

The issue is I am not sure how the ‘real world’ should look like … now… I need some references. I don’t know what makes sense. Really. But this is surely a WOW with Vision Pro!

Actually, when you download Iris, it will be using health type by default

You can change your mode to Paused to stop Iris from running for a while and then to Automatic again for it to resume

The option that removes the most blue light is the Sleep type

It set’s your Blue light to 0K which is 0% basically

Here’s what I would recommend:
1) Remove PWM Flicker:

2) Pick a low enough blue light value that’s also comfortable with you
You can try Sleep type which has 0% blue light but it’s really red and might be a tad hard to look at your screen

Windows XP is an old operation system, Iris does support it but it’s possible that erros like this happen

Sorry, you are right. It’s the full version. The latest version is installed and the location is correctly displayed, but in the system tray is still standing 6500k/loading and no light correction.

From what you said, I thnk you are using the full version of Iris and not Iris mini

Unless you are using a VPN or have no internet the location should be loading on the latest version

They also have different models so maybe you will find one that will fit you best for your situation

I need glasses. I play everyday a VR Boxing game for some minutes and i want to wear glasses under them.
I set brighness very low in the game and contrast too.
I have tried multiple glasses. The one which blocks most (2 squares are black) is way to big and unconfortable.
Any tipps which glasses are really good if i cant use Iris or flux?

If you can get a physical blue light filter that will help you, while it’s not Iris and you have less customizability it’s still much better than nothing

We can’t control the hardware brightness of your monitor (the one that you set using your monitor keys) that’s why you can’t remove PWM Flicker with a click of a button

If you want one click simple setings for blue light, I’d suggest sticking to Mode: Automatic Type: Health
When you are using automatic mode Iris will adjust the blue light values depending on the time of day/night and it will do the work for you 🙂

Sometimes displays are not affected by Iris when they are connected through usb or DisplayLink, so this fixes it
